The first step in switching from an old packet service to MPLS VPN service is figuring out what kind of service is required. There are three kinds: Point to Point MPLS VPN uses Virtual Leased Lines (VLL); Layer 2 MPLS VPN, aka VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service), uses a cloud switcher to give access to a VLAN (Virtual Land Area Network); and Layer 3 MPLS VPN is a Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN) used to transmit data with an extra level of privacy.
